What we look for

• Hail bruising — mat damage that won't show up to a homeowner but breaks the granule layer.
• Granule loss in valleys and at the eaves (where hail concentrates).
• Wind lift on shingle tabs — even partial lifts compromise the seal.
• Vent boot, ridge cap, and flashing damage — the leaks that show up 3–6 months later.
• Soft metal damage on gutters, flashing, vent caps — your adjuster will use these as a "calibration" surface.

What the storm actually means for your roof

Hail < 1.0″

Usually cosmetic on architectural shingles unless the storm sat over your area for >15 minutes. Worth a free inspection — won't always result in a claim.

Hail 1.0–1.5″

The "claim line." Typical functional damage to asphalt shingles, soft metal, and vent boots. Almost always supports a full replacement scope.

Hail 1.5″+

Total loss territory. We've seen 15-year-old asphalt roofs split open like a watermelon at 1.75″.

Why drone documentation matters

The single biggest reason claims get denied is incomplete documentation. A drone gets us on every square inch of the roof, every flashing detail, every hidden valley. When the adjuster shows up, we hand them a 40-photo report. Denials drop to near-zero.
